sos gunver ryberg, aïsha devi, rrose and paula temple are the four artists collaborating for decon/recon 2. the new record will be released as limited edition vinyl on noise manifesto. in this collaboration series, each artist has produced a track from all the artists sounds, yet the release credits all four artists equally on all four tracks. it is a symbolic act for reducing hierarchy, ego attachment in identity, preferring instead to shift the focus towards affinity. paula temple describes the bond in this second collaboration as every artist in this release approaches their creative energy particularly connected towards a more shamanistic mindset. when you listen to the progression of their music, it feels like the physical and mental realms we accept as reality and function within are being stripped away. maybe that is weird to say about underground dance music, but i find the journeys each of these artists take you on are very exciting in how they affect you.

veil of light is the synth/postpunk solo project of a mystery man from zurich known to the wider world only as m. the project was born in 2012 when all the tracks for the veil of light eponymous 2013 ep released on belaten were recorded by m in a bunker near zurich. that last fact incidentally is a good way to describe the music released under this project’s name much like the mental image of a bunker it is cold dark and forces one into a contemplative resigned state. the influences that immediately come to mind listening to veil of light are 1980’s wave music post punk industrial and dark ambient all weaved together by an overarching depressive yet dreamy atmosphere. it has been called gothgaze and the description seems apt. the followup to the opener the 7” cold skin single released on edition gris and the debut lp simply titled as well as this years head/blood/chest ep continue in the same vein.

tang breaks out a little-used alias, transmitting from the concrete jungle, audio hallucinogens changes thoughts. the “habit” is a subtle rumbling bass line evolving into a fluid, acidic language, which only crickets would understand.

mondo disko club has been, for over the past 16 years, the flagship for discerning electronic music lovers and dancers in madrid. with a loyal and enthusiastic crowd and a booking policy that combines a selection of solid resident djs alongside a list of high quality international artists, creating a record label seemed to be the most reasonable step to follow. mondo discos is born as an extension of the club, with the sole intention of bringing to light musical projects that excite us, projects with which we feel particularly identified. for our first reference, which we found particularly important as it will set the tone, we have a very special and mysterious proposal called mentho. this is the brand-new side project of a well known house duo that wishes to remain anonymous for now, and wanted to dig deeper into their more experimental side teos sock consists basicaly on a mix of electronic, experimental music, halfway between mental electronic vibes and instropected techno. polirithmic and intrincate patterns with an afro sounding background, deep and moody synth work and an overall endless melodic vibe.

here we see italian brother duo elia and niro perrone, release their debut long player in the shape of ‘pescaiola’ the name of the suburbs the pair grew up and paying homage to their musical roots growing up together. across the duration of the ‘pescaiola’ lp easy to remember serve up a amalgamation of raw and intriguing electronic, house and techno cuts. opener ‘hanckora’ lays down a lo-fi infused hip hop style to kick things off, while ‘checkma dem’ lies in similar territory with the addition of some vocal stylings as well. for the most part though easy to remember lay the focus on emotive house music, title track ‘pescaiola’ plays on multi-layered melodies and retro synths, ‘hijack percussion’ focuses on gritty rhythm and soft atmospherics and ‘try to escape’ brings to light ethereal synth leads and snaking bass grooves. the duo instil some funk influence into the lp as well via ‘feelings’ and some experimental touches as well with their giulio etiope collaboration ‘degolas’ amongst others. all in all easy to remember deliver a refreshing take on modern electronica across the project and further prove unclear is a force to be reckoned with in the underground.

the flawed wonders that yair elazar glotman puts forth on his latest opus i know no weekend are the coldest dreams you would ever wish to immerse yourself in. they recall echoes of echoes, forced into slowly struggling shapes, ghosts of memories, whispers of life from another dimension. shamanic-repetitive beats shift slowly beneath echoing bells and fragments of past transmissions. overwhelmingly, one is taken into upon a winding mental path, with no clear resolution in sight, although the journey is ever-evolving and new.

oisel presents dimensione astrale, a release that gives an important definition to his musical identity. the spatial sounds are the main feature of the tracks, in fact the artist tried to create an ambient similar to an abstracted dimension, in which the mind can get lost. the final result is a repetitive mental flow of some distant galaxy traped in wax.

following a brief stint in italy with hesperius draco, frigio records is on the road again, this time crossing the adriatic to hook up with le chocolat noir. the croatian artist, known for disco panonia and his work as honored matres, is no stranger to frigio, having featured on all stars vol 1 in 2014. -transform ep- is introduced by the industrial mental sounds of -greedy pets- and followed by a new name to the roster as june delivers his interpretation of it.

launched in 1996, ploink has been a core brand in norwegian techno for two decades now, booking the likes of jeff mills, juan atkins, derrick may, carl cox, radio slave and richie hawtin, as well as launching a record label that champions scandinavian artists. with the likes of prins thomas, mental overdrive, nordenstam, mind over midi and label founder thomas urv appearing thus far, 96-16#3 is the third and final instalment in the 20-year celebratory releases.
